President George Weah Donates $10,000:00 To Gambia

Liberia’s Football loving President George Weah continues not to disappoint with another pleasant manifestation of surprise donating $10,000:00 to the Gambia National U-20 Team at the WAFU tournament in Liberia.

Weah made the donation to the Gambia after the Young Scorpions qualified to the Final beating Ivory Coast 8-7 on penalties after a one all draw at full time earning the U-20 lads spot to the Final of the tournament. The former World soccer star handed over the donated amount to the Gambia while watching Liberia against Mali in the second semi final where the hosts also edged out Mali to reach to the Final.

The donated money was received on behalf of the Young Scorpions by Gambia Head of delegation Rtd Lieutenant General Lang Tombong Tamba. Earlier at the beginning of the Week, Weah invited WAFU Organizing Committee and all the Four finalists including the Gambia Young Scorpions for lunch at the Executive Manson where he interacted with players and Officials.

It is further reported that President Weah has earlier donated $25,000:00 to the Junior Lone Stars of Liberia for their surprise note to reaching at the Final for the first time in two decades.

At the Young Scorpions Palm Spring Hotel in Monrovia, Gambian born Dr Lamin Beyai Head of the UN Systems in Liberia has also returned to the U-20 camp with a stronger promise of $1000:00 if they win the trophy on Saturday. Dr Beyai at the beginning of the week visited the team to congratulate them for their semi final berth and presented them refreshments and encouraged them to work harder for the final place.

Meanwhile the GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo has been speaking to the Gambian team in Monrovia and congratulated them for their win and hard earned victory to the final. He thanked the Coach Mattar Mboge and his technical staff for doing a very good job and hailed the players for their steadfast, determination and sef belief . He assured the Young Scorpions of the country’s support and prayers while reiterating that the GFF will continue to do all what it costs to see the team prevail at the Final. Mr Bajo promised to be with the boys at the final on Saturday May 5th.
