Marreh Makes Move To Belgian Jupiler Side KAA Gent

Gambian international Sulayman Marreh has joined Belgian first tier side KAA Gent for a three year contract period. The former Eupen centre forward joined the Jupiler Pro side on Tuesday 7th January 2020 and will be with the Buffaloes until 30th June 2023.

The former Abuko United mid fielder was spotted by Gambia U-17s staff in 2011 ahead of the 2011 African Championships, and despite being left out of the final cut, he joined Samger Football Club in March 2014 shortly before he moved to Granada CF in Spain, being assigned to the reserves in Segunda Division B for a reported fee of one million Dalasis.

Marreh made his senior debut with the A Team on 15 March 2014, starting in a 0–0 draw against FC Cartagena barely a month later he netted his first goal abroad, scoring the first of a 6–1 home win over Ecija Balompie.

He was called up to the Analusians main squad on 21 March, ahead of the La liga Match against Elche CF . He although remained on the bench in the 1–0 win but made his first-team debut on 17 October, starting in a 0–1 home loss against Ravo Vallecano

On 10 July 2017,  Marreh was loaned from Watford to Segunda Division side Real Valladolid for one year. His loan was the following January cancelled and he joined UD Almeria for the remainder of campaign.

In March 2019 Begian League One team KAS Eupen announced they had taken up the option to sign the Gambian international on a contract until June 2021, having initially signed him on loan for the 2018–19 season.

Marreh’s international cap with the Gambia Scorpions started after being left out of the under-17 squad, when he made his debut with the Scorpions of the Gambia on 9 February 2011, coming on as a sub in a 1–3 loss to Guinea Bissau at Lisbon, Portugal . Marreh played a vital role on the Scorpions team when the Gambia hosted Ivory Coast at a World Cup Qualifier in Banjul. He has also been a formidable force in Gambia’s match to Algeria where he always feature as a regular and until recently at Gambia’s away and home legs to Angola and DR Congo in the Afcon Qualifiers where the Gambia beat Angola 3-1 and drew one all to the DR Congo.
