West Coast Region duo Kintehs FC and Brikama United have gained promotion to the top tier of Women’s football in The Gambia following their respective victories on Saturday. They achieved this feat with two matches left in the second division following third place Berewuleng’s shock 3-0 defeat to third from bottom Jeshwang United on Friday.
Leaders Kintehs defeated bottom side Jam City 2-0 while second place Brikama United thrashed Future Bi 4-0. The two teams are locked on 42 points apiece after 19 matches but the former is leading the log because of their superior goal difference. Kintehs have six goals better than Brikama.
Berewuleng is languishing eight points adrift of the leading two and because they can only achieve a maximum six points from the pair of matches remaining, they can no longer catch them on the table and thus would definitely finish outside the promotion places irrespective of the outcome of those two teams’ results in their final matches.
Elsewhere, on Friday, third from bottom Raptim FC played out a 1-1 draw with fifth place Great Tomorrow. Matches in the women’s league are usually played at the National Technical Training Center, formerly called the FIFA Goal Project in Old Yundum.
