Jane Joof has remarked that his side is very much composed and currently playing without any pressure despite seemingly running away with the domestic first division league title.
Joof, speaking to www.gambiaff.org, ahead of this Saturday’s meeting with relegation threatened Banjul United, added that they will prepare for the match just like any other, but was quick to add that it could be a tricky encounter looking at the opponent’s position on the table. The Farato based side currently lead the 14-team division with 35 points, nine ahead of nearest challengers and neighbors Brikama United after 15 matches. There success is built around their defensive solidity than ruthlessness in front of goal, having compensated for their 16 goals scored with just a mere two conceded all season.
“At the moment we’re not playing with any pressure despite topping the table. We are composed and taking it game by game to keep up the consistency of winning,” Joof affirmed.
However, before Fortune’s encounter, the week itself would resume following the Eid break with basement side Marimoo entertaining Elite United in the early kickoff of Thursday at 7pm. The late match will see a cracker when two crowd pullers Real de Banjul and BK Milan face off in front of the floodlights at 9pm.
On Friday, Hawks will hope to improve on their 16 points when they host Wallidan in the early kickoff before Gamtel in sixth entertains the exciting Waa Banjul later in the night. Saturday will also see Gambia Ports Authority entertain second place Brikama United with the latter having the opportunity to chop into Fortune’s lead with victory ahead of the leaders’ meeting with Banjul United in the late match of that day.
Modoulamin Nyassi, the Brikama gaffer, described the meeting with GPA as tough, comparing it to their previous meeting that ended 1-1. He admitted that GPA were dominant in that game with a great coach but noted his team has learnt some lessons and have made some progress since. “We want to maintain our winning streak to six matches by going with that winning spirit into the game,” he added.
The final match of the weekend will be played on Sunday when Gambia Armed Forces play Tallinding United. A win for the Soldiers could see them finish the weekend in second, depending on Brikama United’s result 24 hours earlier, whom they trailed by three points but levelled on goal difference.
