Immigration Finally Wins, Bottom Two Losses Again

Action continues in the domestic second tier on Wednesday as Immigration put a stop to their winless run while Serrekunda East Bi and 2nd Infantry Battalion’s poor form continues.

With just a mere five matches before the end of this year’s much-delayed campaign due to the restrictions on sports under the Covid19 emergency national regulations, things are beginning to shape up at both ends of the table.

The shock of the round so far was played at the Live Your Dreams Sports Academy Complex in Basori with second place Samger losing 2-1 to Immigration. The Cherno Samba Academy Boys remained second with 49 points, three adrift of leaders Falcons who have the chance to open up a six points lead with victory over Jam City today at the Late Ousman Saho field in Yundum. Immigration, who hadn’t won in three matches, is now 12th with 27 points.

Elsewhere, Eastbi lost 2-1 to Young Africans at the Independence Stadium with the latter moving to 11th on the 16-team table with 28 points, while the former is closer to relegation than safety. They have 18 points from a possible 75.

Also on Wednesday, Red Hawks were held to a 1-1 by B4U Kiang West at Yundum, while PSV Wellingara made it two wins in two with a narrow 1-0 defeat of Team Rhino at Basori.

Gunjur United bounced back from their last week’s defeat to Samger to beat bottom side 2nd Infantry Battalion 2-1 at the Jarra Soma Mini Stadium. The defeat added more misery on the Soldiers from Farafenni as they edged closer to a drop back to the third tier.

There will be two other matches that will take place later today with Jarra West looking to continue their recent winning run when they host Steve Biko in Soma. The Giant Killers, who lost 2-1 to PSV Wellingara, will be hoping to regain their wining form. The final match of the round will come from Basori where Bombada entertains Latrikunda United.

Elsewhere, promotion hopefuls Bombada and Latrikunda United will look to salvage some pride when the two meet at the Live Your Dreams Sports Academy Complex in Basori.

Finally, leaders Falcons will be looking to extend their lead to 6 points when they take on 3rd place Jam City at the Late Ousman Saho Field in Old Yundum.
