A whooping 20 goals were scored at the weekend in week 19 of the Gambia Football Federation division 2 league. The biggest winners were Waa Banjul who mauled Brufut United 3-0 at the Box Bar Mini Stadium to open up a four-point lead at the top of the table.
They’re on 42 points, followed by Sporting Real in second with 38 points. Sporting Real, who looked like they were running away with the league at some point dropped two valuable points at the weekend when they drew 2-2 with rocked bottom 2nd Infantry Battalion.
Also in the second tier Gambian league football, Jam City moved three places to 9th on 23 points following a 3-1 defeat of Serrekunda Eastbi. Elsewhere, Young Africans put the brakes on Bombada’s free scoring run when they held the Brikama-based outfit to a goalless stalemate in Banjul.
Earlier on Saturday, Red Hawks continue its impressive run in the second round with a solid 2-1 win over relegation candidates B4U Kiang West in Brikama. Meanwhile on Thursday, Team Rhino consolidated their grip on third place when they secured a slender 1-0 win over Gunjur United at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama. At the Indrpendence Stadium in Bakau, Lions of Banjul and Latrikunda United drew 2-2 while mid-table Steve Biko lost 2-1 to Immigration in Brikama.
