The fight against the new Coronavirus ( Covid-19) has come as a top agenda for the Gambia Football Federation joining the Gambia government in the band wagon for the combat against Covid-19. Football House on Monday 6th April, 2020 donated sanitary materials to the Seven Regional Football Associations in the country at a ceremony held at the GFF Secretariat in Kanifing.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo said the materials are part of the Federation’s contribution to the fight against Covid-19. “This is one of a series of our contribution to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic which is real and serious as it is affecting our livelihood”. Mr Bajo said the pandemic is a serious matter hence FIFA and CAF have both cancelled or postponed all football activities since the outbreak of the virus. “As you are all aware, we have already made some video clips to sensitize the public particularly footballers on the new virus and the measures put in place by the government and the Health authorities”. Mr Bajo used the occasion to call on the youths to desist from playing unrecognized ‘Warga Warga‘ football. “We are aware that series of football activities are currently going on in some quarters although not organized by the GFF or any of its affiliates but we urged the youths to desist from coming together for any football activity because the GFF as the main official body of football in the country has suspended the National League and the reason for the suspension is to prevent the potential spread of Covid-19 pandemic”.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries URRFA President Mr Furumuz Gomez thanked the GFF for the donated items and further promised that the materials will be put into their rightful purposes. He also added to the call of the GFF President for youths to desist from engaging into any football activity as a measure to curb the spread of the virus.
