GFF Begins Understudy Tour To Introduce a Professional League

The Gambia Football Federation’s dream to introduce a professional league is bearing fruits as the first stage of the conceived idea has begun in earnest.
Ever since the inception of League Football in the Gambia, records will have that the Lamin Kaba Bajo led Executive Committee has swiftly transformed League Football from amateur to a steadily more improved nomenclature that expands from the previously fewer teams to an expanded number meant to engender competition and create more playing time for the larger pool of players across all categories.
The GFF Executive has promised to upgrade the League format from its current status where the 1st Division is the highest level to a Professional League which will be the apex Competition in the country while the rest of the other cadres remain.
At the start of searching the dream for the actualization of the Professional League, three Senior Officials from Football House have left for Morocco on Wednesday the 15th January 2020 for a five days understudy tour of the project. The delegation is headed by 2nd Vice President and Head of Competitions Ebou Faye accompanied by Executive Member Sadibou Kamaso and Competitions Director Baboucarr Jobe.
The Officials as part of the study tour will hold meetings with officials of the FRFM, Ligue Nationale de Football Professional (LNFP) of Morocco, which will be followed by visits to FUS Academy and Moulay El Hasan two of the Kingdom’s renowned football arenas designed for football growth and development. The tour team will also make visit to the Statebof the art 70 million Euros Muhammed VI Football Complex in Rabat before capping off with a Botola League game.
The proposed professional league is to be introduced in 2021/22 football season. Membership will be open to all clubs in the 1st and 2nd divisions that can meet the requirements. As a key component of the League, an independent Professional League Association will be set up to determine the qualification of clubs as well as be responsible for its management and co-ordination while the GFF serves as the overseer. The bottom Leagues (1st, 2nd, 3rd Div will remain amateur and to be managed by the GFF.
