The First Vice President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh, yesterday deputised the President Lamin Kaba Bajo in presiding over the inauguration of the GFF’s Disciplinary Committee in a brief ceremony held at the Football House in Kanifing.
The function of Disciplinary Committee is governed by the Disciplinary Code of the GFF, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and football’s world governing body (FIFA). The Committee have powers to sanction members, officials, players, clubs and match and players agents. The five-member Committee is chaired by Lawyer Lamin S. Camara who is assisted by Mrs. Matilda Mendy. The other members of the Committee are Burama Dibba of Hawks Football Club, Superintendent Modou Lamin Mballow and Commissioner Kemeta Sambou.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Jammeh congratulated the members for accepting to serve in what he described as one of the most important and powerful bodies of the GFF. He expressed optimism that the members would leave up to expectation.
The members took turns in extolling the GFF for the trust and confidence bestowed in them. They assured the leadership of their willingness and readiness to serve football and serve, they vowed to do, to the best of their abilities and in the interest of the country.
Just as any other standing committee, the Disciplinary Committee, comprises of a maximum five members in which both the chair and his or her assistant must have a legal background. The Committee has a mandate of four years.
