The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has sent a letter of condolence to the President of the Sierra Leonean Football Association (SLFA), Mrs. Isha Johansen, following the untimely death of nine (9) young footballers and a community coach in a tragic car accident over the weekend.
In news monitored on Football Sierra Leone, the deceased were returning to Makeni from Batkanu in Karane District after playing a successful community football gala. The report further added that about 20 are seriously injured, some are reported to be in critical condition in Makeni Regional hospital.
“On behalf of the President of the GFF, the Executive Committee and staff, I convey our heartfelt condolences and sympathy on this irreparable loss, to African football as a whole. While we wish the injured a speedy recovery, please extend our condolences to the bereaved families as well,” the letter, signed by the Finance Director and acting General Secretary in the absence of the substantive holder of the position, read.
“While we wish the departed souls an eternal rest in Jannah, please be assured of our solidarity with you and the bereaved families in these very difficult times of pain, sorrow and agony.”
As a result of the tragic incident, the North East football body has suspended all football activities in Bombali until the players are buried.
